


The hammered dulcimer is a small flighty naked piano of ancient Middle-Eastern origin. Rob has been patiently coaxing music from his throughout his 18 years in Moscow. Rob is part of the local sea shanty band Bigger Boat, and his hammered dulcimer is an isosceles trapezoid. And like a rabbit, it dislikes sudden noises, so please hold any applause till the end.


Xander Helt, Clarinet – A Moscow-born native, Xander Helt is currently studying music education and composition at the University of Idaho.
Darren Ho, Clarinet – Currently a Sophomore at the University of Idaho, Darren Ho was recently appointed as Second Clarinet of the Washington-Idaho Symphony. His chief interests are in chamber music, including duets, trios, and quintets with other woodwinds, brass, and strings.


Dr. Deborah Collins studied piano performance at Iowa State University prior to deciding to go into medicine and has accompanied community/university/church choirs and voice students, directed a youth choir, and sung with multiple collegiate and community choirs in the past. Deborah is currently a family physician at WSU’s Cougar Health Services and obtained her MD from Duke University School of Medicine and Master of Science in Public Health from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She lives in Pullman with her husband Brian and their three daughters Sophie, Lucy, and Violet.


Anya Cohen-Rehm, Vocalist, is a middle schooler from Moscow, Idaho. A passionate musician who sings all the time for fun and loves to improvise harmonies, Anya also sings in the PCS Children’s Choir and plays the flute in band and jazz band. In order to further her musical repertoire, she has also started to learn recorder, baritone saxophone, guitar, and piano, and she has started to think about going to college to study music. Aside from music, she also loves running, camping, reading, and snuggling her dog. She is also a young disability rights activist, educating her peers about disability accommodations and acceptance. She’s thrilled to be part of this event.


Becky Behre, Clarinet – After earning her bachelors degree in instrumental and vocal music education and teaching briefly at elementary and Jr High level, Becky went on to study nursing. While working at Gritman Medical Center she continued to teach private lessons in clarinet, piano, and voice for a few years.
She has continued to play her clarinet in many esteemed groups around the Palouse including the Vandal non-marching pep band, Moscow Community Band, Auf Gehtz German band and the paradise hills Dixieland band. She has been the principal clarinet in the Community Band of the Palouse for over 35 years. Three years ago, after 45 years at Gritman, she retired and has been a part of the UI clarinet studio ever since. She has been taking lessons, playing in the UI clarinet choir and UI Wind Ensemble. She also attends a music retreat in Walla Walla each summer. A self proclaimed “Band Nerd”, she is enjoying playing in chamber groups with string players and looks forward to playing more chamber music in the future!


Alex Crookston is a Violin Masters student in his second year at the University of Idaho. In addition to violin, he is an aspiring conductor and ultimate frisbee player.


Gladys Rae Patten – Violin
Gladys was born and raised in Boise, began her violin training in elementary orchestra. She was inspired by her private teacher, Lois Wertz of Boise and studied privately later in high school. College level training was initially at Brigham Young University and then on to earn her Bachelors and Masters in music performance at the University of Idaho studying violin with Stephen Folks, and Ferenc Cseszko. Orchestra membership includes the Boise Philharmonic and the Washington Idaho Symphony. Gladys was in the faculty of Palouse Suzuki Strings and taught privately for many years.
Currently she is serving as a pianist for her church choir and enjoys fiddling for family gatherings. Over the past twelve years, the Rose Garden Trio has been a delightful ongoing ensemble experience.


Angela Schauer is a violinist and violist from Moscow, Idaho. A native of Spokane, she regularly performs as a section player of several regional orchestras, including the Walla Walla Symphony, Yakima Symphony Orchestra, and holds the position of Principal Violist in the Washington Idaho Symphony. She maintains an active teaching studio in Moscow and has coordinated the Palouse Chamber Music Workshop for the past several years at the University of Idaho and was a chamber music coach at the WSU Cougar String Camp for many summers; both programs enrich the lives of high school and college students through chamber music performance and mentorship. She also attends Into the Woods Chamber Music Retreat each
summer in the Portland, OR area. Angela has a Bachelor of Music from Eastern Washington University and Master of Arts from Washington State University. Her primary mentors have been Philip Baldwin, Meredith Arksey and Mateusz Wolski.


Linda Wharton, Cello – Moscow cellist & pianist, plays with the Rose Garden Piano Trio, the Washington Idaho Symphony, and is available for solo and chamber music performances. She offers all levels of cello lessons and coaching and is certified in the Suzuki Method.


Adrian Crookston, Accordion – Adrian is an accordion player from Moscow, Idaho. He plays a variety of styles such as Forró, polka, rock, funk, zydeco, and more.


Darryl Singleton, Percussion
Darryl “Doc D” Singleton is WSU’s Assistant Professor of Black Music in America and Social Justice, Jazz Percussion teacher, and Jazz Area Coordinator. He previously held teaching positions at various institutions, with his longest appointment being the 27 years spent at Texas Southern University where he taught percussion and eventually became the interim director of the “Ocean of Soul” marching band. A versatile percussionist, Singleton’s performing highlights include playing with Gladys Knight, Phyllis Hyman, and Aretha Franklin. Before coming to WSU, he was timpanist and principal percussionist in Houston’s Scott Joplin Chamber Orchestra and drummer/percussionist with the Conrad Johnson Jazz Orchestra. On the Palouse, “Doc D” stays busy playing in bands with styles ranging from Latin rock and salsa to jazz and neo soul…and polka!

Inland Harmony Chorus is the local chapter of Sweet Adelines International, the world’s largest music education organization for female singers with over 25,000 members around the globe. The group is committed to preserving the unique sound of a cappella barbershop harmony, sharing our passion for music and empowering women in every area of their lives through education and performance.


Sue Campbell Clark, Piano
Sue’s passion for music began when she took her first piano lessons at age three. She minored in music at Brigham Young University, studying organ, earned a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Arizona, and a PhD in organizational behavior from the University of Illinois. Music continued to be a joyful part of her life. She was employed as an organist, sang in an a cappella group, and taught piano and organ in her own studio for 20 years. Currently, she enjoys playing the piano in the Rose Garden Trio.

Kristin Lincoln, Narrator
Kristin Lincoln is currently the Executive Director of the Washington Idaho Symphony and a nonprofit consultant who loves helping small and mid-sized organizations thrive. A big believer in the power of live music and the arts, she’s spent over 25 years involved in community and semi-professional theater, both on stage and behind the scenes, including serving as Artistic Director for Pullman Civic Theatre and the Gladish Players. Whether she’s cheering on local musicians, directing a play, or stepping into the spotlight herself, she’s happiest when supporting the arts and the communities that make them possible.
